Alan Boyson Night

Thursday 16th February 2023
6.15PM FOR A 6.30PM START BDP11 Ducie St, Manchester M1 2JB

A night celebrating the life and work of artist Alan Boyson.

Perhaps best know for his architectural murals Boyson now has two listed artworks - the Tree of Knowledge at the former Cromwell Secondary School in Salford and the Three Ships on the former Co-op building in Hull.

There will two presentations - one from Chris Marsden, who is regarded as the leading authority on Boyson's work, and another from Esther Johnson, an artist and film maker who initiated the Ships in the Sky social history arts project about Boyson’s Hull works.

They will be joined by Leigh Bird, who along with Esther, led the campaign to save the Three Ships from demolition and eventually succeeded in achieving its listing and Richard Brook, who alerted us to the plight of one of Alan's murals on The Queens Hotel In Collyhurst and, after a successful crowdfund campaign, have now seen it restored to its former glory.

Ticket price is £10 or £8 for concessions (students, unwaged, over 60 etc) and thanks to BDP's generosity includes a free introductory drink and snacks.

(Modernist Members can also apply discount at checkout.)
