Plymouth Docks (black logo) T-Shirt

The British Transport Docks Board (BTDB) was a nationalised industry, managing former railway-owned docks in Great Britain. Abolished in 1981, it was one the first nationalised industries to be privatised by the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher.

The logo designed by Ben John and Ed Stone in 1965 represents a dockside bollard and was used across the BTDP ports. In 1976 it owned and operated nineteen active ports, including those at Swansea, Hull, Grimsby and Plymouth.

If you have ever been on one of our Modernist Mooches, you will know just how fond we are of Swansea, Hull and Grimsby (we have yet to mooch around Plymouth) and so here we present these t-shirts as a tribute, not only to the great design work of Ben John and Ed Stone but also to these fine towns and cities by the sea.
