Commonplace | Issue Six | Top Deck — Launch Event This August

There's a new issue of Commonplace on the way, and we're having a bit of a do.

Join us for the launch of Issue Six: Top Deck, the latest instalment of Commonplace, from Joanna Heath, on Wednesday 19th August, 6–9pm at W2 Store, 10 Ruthven Lane, Glasgow G12 9BG.

Come along to be among the first to get your hands on a copy of Top Deck, meet Joanna, and celebrate the release with people who love photography, print and car parks of course. Joanna's photographs will also feature in a pop-up exhibition alongside the launch.

About Top Deck

Winter arrives early in Glasgow — shorter days, low sun, long stretches of rain. Joanna Heath, based in a first-floor flat with little direct sunlight from October to April and a 9–5 routine to work around, found herself drawn to an unlikely source of light and calm: the upper decks of the city's multi-storey car parks.

Accessible, often empty, and unexpectedly sunlit, these top decks offer height, openness, and a stillness rarely found elsewhere in Glasgow's tight grid of narrow streets and tall buildings.

Above the city, the noise softens and the sky opens up. Top Deck is Joanna's photographic study of these overlooked, in-between spaces — vast concrete planes that are public in access but not quite in intent, holding a quiet unease alongside striking winter light, bold graphic markings, and familiar views seen from somewhere new. Accidental architecture, shaped by neglect, offering brief moments of calm in places never meant for occupation.

Browse, flip through the zine, have a drink, meet Joanna, and pick up your copy before anyone else does.

Top Deck is a 32 page photo 'zine. Issue six of Commonplace published by the modernist + UHM Publications

Special thanks to W2 Store for hosting.

See you on the 19th.
