How to submit to the modernist magazine
the modernist magazine is published three times a year. You're welcome to run ideas past us at any time - it's always helpful to know your work fits the magazine's remit. However, content is selected on a theme-by-theme basis following open calls.
Our next call for content will be posted late August 2026...so watch this space.
We look for essays or photo stories of around 1,000 words that respond to set themes related to twentieth‑century architecture and design.
Our main focus is twentieth‑century architecture, along with art and design connected to the built environment—interiors, glass, murals, furniture, and more. Submissions may come from anywhere in the world, though we particularly value lesser‑known examples. Contributors are always encouraged to interpret our themes in their own distinctive manner and with broad imagination.
Please note that the modernist is a not‑for‑profit social enterprise run on a shoestring, relying on the generosity of like‑minded people and fellow travellers who share their ideas, words, and images with us and our readers. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer fees for contributions; articles and photographs are requested in a spirit of community and friendly collaboration.
We may not be able to reply to every submission, and we apologise if you do not receive a response.
