If there’s an empty space people will play in it!

The Secret Gardens Festival celebrates the rich creative talent in Salford and Trafford with a range of unique events taking place across the both areas, showcasing a diverse range of local undiscovered talent and creativity. The Festival will be taking place between Thursday 7 and Saturday 23 June 2012 in various locations across the region.

For the Secret Gardens Festival the Modernist Society is launching a series of four postcards illustrating pre-generated urban spaces which acted as alternative gardens and unlikely playgrounds for a generation of Salfordians.

The images have been selected from an archive collated by the University of Salford from their intergenerational project ‘Salford in Pictures’. The images, taken by non professional photographers and local people, reveal beauty in unexpected places.
