Ian McLaren has had an incredible life and career and we are very pleased to announce an 'In Conversation' evening with him.
In the early 1960's Ian attended the London School of Printing before moving to Germany to attend the legendary Ulm School of Design. After Ulm he moved to Frankfurt to work at BRAUN and then to Amsterdam to work for Ahrend Libra.
Returning to London in the late 60's he did work for CND, Penguin & Pelican books and The Arts Council.
In 1971 he joined his former tutor Otl Aicher in Munich to work with Dept XI - the team who created the graphic identity for entire 1972 Olympic Games - a created high point for modernist graphic design.
After Munich he moved to Paris and did work for Frutiger, Unesco, The Pompidou Centre and worked on the signage for the Lyon Metro.
Returning to England he developed a low cost printing technique StenScreen and worked on Minitel, the worlds first digital telephone directory and the precursor to the World Web Web.
This is sure to be a fascinating evening for design fans and modernists alike.
This is a fundraising event to raise much needed funds for The Modernist Society , a not for profit organisation, and we thank London Modern and Fielden Clegg and Bradley for their support.
With this in mind we are offering tickets on a 'pay what you can' donation basis - with tickets starting at £5.
This is also an opportunity to get to know about the new cultural festival London Modern. Refreshments will be provided.
