GMC21 - The Walk Series - Season 2 - SimpsonHaugh : Part 2: 19th June 2025
Thursday 19th June 2025
5.45pm for a 6pm start until approx 8pm
Meet at the modernist 58 Port Street Manchester M1 2EQ
Inspired by our 2023 book GMC21 , which looked at Manchester's 21st century architecture, we are holding a series of summer evening walks focussing on individual architectural practises body of work and led by an architect from the relevant firm.
SimpsonHaugh proved very popular last year and they have so much in their portfolio that they deserved a second bite of the cherry.
Taking a route that roughly follows the Rochdale canal we shall start with 1 Port Street and finish at Merchants Warehouse - starting at one of their most recent projects and finishing at one of their first.
Along the way we'll also see Burlington Gate, Ducie House, Grand Apartments, Manchester New Square, Maldron Hotel, New Wakefield St, Green Room (Gorilla), First Street. Innside hotel, Square Gardens and Parkway Gate
The walk will be led by David Green and Helen Trott - partners at SimpsonHaugh who both have 25 years at the firm.
This is a unique opportunity to not only see some good contemporary architecture but hear about the background and rationale for the projects.
All photography by Daniel Hopkinson except Merchants Warehouse (unknown)
