Following the closure of the former Architecture and Planning Library at the University of Manchester, a collection of uncatalogued bound dissertations and thesis projects were discovered in the basement. These documents are part of the history of the Manchester School of Architecture and were acceded to the Special Collections Museum at Manchester Metropolitan University. Collectively they record the types of social, cultural and design related matters of concern from the mid-1950s to the late 1970s at the University. Amongst them was the undergraduate dissertation of Sir Norman Foster - it was thought lost prior to the transfer, but was located as the collection was reordered in the archives. Written about urban space in Europe, it contains original drawings and photographs by Foster at a formative time in his education. Working with archivist Jeremy Parrett, Eddy Rhead and Richard Brook have selected a further 40 of the most visually striking documents that include wonderful type, photography, drawings and diagrams of the period, for viewing at an early evening event on Wednesday 18th October.

This is a very limited event with only space for 20 people.
