St Paul's Church - Sheffield 14&15th September 2024
Visit St. Paul's, Sheffield on Heritage Open Days 2024
Saturday 14 September: 1000-1500
Sunday 15 September: 1130-1300
Designed by Basil Spence, St Paul's Wordsworth Avenue was built in 1956. Come and explore the building, hear talks about Basil Spence by members of Sheffield Modernist Society before joining us for refreshments in the Church Hall next door.
St Paul's Church will be open 1000-1500 on Saturday 14th September 2024 and for 90 minutes after our morning service on Sunday 15th September. The service runs 1030-1130, with the building remaining open until 1300.
You'll be welcome to explore the whole building, seeing some of Basil Spence's designs, some of which he went on to incorporate into Coventry Cathedral.
There will be short 15-20 minute talks about the work and life of Basil Spence by members of the Sheffield Modernist Society at 1100 and 1300. There is plenty of space in the Church, so no need to pre-book these; just turn up. For the rest of the time, the building will be open with members of St Paul's on hand to ask any questions about the life of the Church today; and some of our plans for the future.
Throughout the time the Church is open, the Church Hall next door will be open too serving tea, coffee, cold drinks and cakes and cream teas. It is 75 years since the Church Hall was built in 1949 - the Church was built in 1956, 7 years later; so it's the 75th anniversary of St Paul's being open. Come and celebrate with us and learn something about Basil Spence at the same time.
This event has been organised by St. Pauls Church as part of Heritage Open Day.
Pre-booking not required.
