The final days of Robin Hood Gardens
Standing in the shadows of the financial towers of Canary Wharf, Robin Hood Gardens was completed in 1972 as an important model of social housing. The two long curved blocks were designed as ‘streets in the sky’ that shielded the residents from the noise of the nearby A12. Long the subject of battle between developers, tenants and architecture fans alike, its demolition looms as part of a wider local regeneration plan.

Built in the early 20th century by German Jewish architects fleeing the rise of the Nazis, The White City is the largest collection of Bauhaus style buildings of any city in the world. Over 4,000 buildings were created from the early 1930s to 1950s, seen as an outstanding example of innovative town planning and architecture. Recognised by UNESCO in 2003 as “an outstanding example of new town planning and architecture”, many of the once-neglected buildings have been refurbished to their former glory, with over 1,500 earmarked for further restoration.

Olympic legacy is hotly debated topic for any nation, let alone Greece, birthplace of the modern Olympics and a country in the midst of financial crisis. Focusing on the 2004 Athens Olympic park, (said to have cost over €11bn) which now sits idle waiting while private developers struggle to secure financing for their redevelopment.
