Merseyway Car Park - Stockport
Can a car park also be a work of art? If you've ever visited Stockport, you'll know the answer is a resounding yes.
The Merseyway Shopping Centre, built in the 1960s, inevitably comes with a multi-storey car park in tow. But this is no ordinary car park. The vast concrete screens that wrap around its exterior were designed by Alan Boyson — artist, ceramicist and sculptor — and they are quietly, stubbornly magnificent.
So, here, we celebrate the Alan Boyson screens in t-shirt form.
