A record of Britain's remaining mining headgears, previously published as part of the book Coal Faces (Image and Reality, 2024) and exhibited at the PhotoPool photography festival, now available in this 60-page book.
Inspired by the photography of Bernd and Hilla Becher, the images have been made in a similar manner — isolated from their surroundings against a featureless sky. But where the Bechers' intent was to reveal the similarities between structures, this project instead sets out to show the diversity of those that remain.
