Wolverhampton Wander - Photo Walk

Saturday 8th July

Meet 1.00 outside Wolverhampton Train Station

A Wolverhampton wander taking in all the modern sites and sights.

An elegant Odeon and car park ramps.

A 1960's Art College and an immense shopping centre.

Led by photographer Tom Hicks aka Black Country Type and ably assisted be the Modernist Moocher Steve Marland.

"For this event I’ll be joining forces with the inimitable Steve Marland @marlandstephen

Steve has built up a cult following for his Modern Mooches. These meticulously researched walks focus on design, architecture and social history.

The photowalk is an opportunity to learn more about my practice and to discover new approaches to urban photography. No prior experience of photography is necessary.

The Modernist is dedicated to celebrating and engaging with twentieth century architecture and design, through publishing, events, exhibitions and creative collaborations.

Special thanks to The Wolverhampton School of Art @wlv_soa for opening up the doors of its iconic building for part of the photowalk. "

In this ongoing photography project - Black Country Type, Tom explores the post-industrial landscape of the West Midlands, focusing on words, typography, handmade lettering and signs.

His work has been published and exhibited widely, most recently in the photobook If Destroyed Still True and the photo poetry book The Dereliction - Hercules Editions.
