THE MODERNIST MAGAZINE (2011-present)

The Modernist Magazine was established as a quarterly, print only publication, dedicated to twentieth century architecture and design in 2011.

We invited contributors to submit articles based losely around a different theme for each issue. The themes are alphabetical, starting with a new letter each year. The first four themes were BOLD, BRILLIANT, BOOM & BUST and BRUTAL.

The Modernist was initially designed by Des Lloyd Behari, followed by Thomas Ulrik Madsen, Jonathan Hitchen, Dan James with Jacob Critchley. The magazine is currently designed by Trevor Johnson, Craig Johnson and Lily Platt. The magazine has been edited by the founding editors Jack Hale and Maureen Ward followed by Emily Gee and currently Ashiya Eastwood. From 2019 a series of guest editors have occasionally been invited to edit the magazine.

The Modernist has featured articles by many many writers and photographers, all of whom have given their time freely.

The Modernist is available to buy on line and is also sold widely at independent and art gallery shops including MagCulture, Village, Arnolfini and Fruitmarket Gallery.
